The 2nds travelled to Burnbrae to take on the best team in the league on a beautiful spring day. The 18 man squad contained no fewer than 10 teenagers. The game was played in a hard but fair manner from beginning to end, and was well refereed. Cumnock started well and some big tackles were put in, which forced errors from the hosts. The visitors also drove the hosts back st mauls and rucks. However, the toll of those early hits started to tell. The home team threw the ball wide at every opportunity, and they began to find holes in the defence. Half time came with the hosts leading 40-0.
Cumnock rallied in the second half and started to take the game to the hosts. There was some excellent driving play, but the home defence held firm. They counter attacked again and again, and scored 4 more tries. Cumnock had the last say in the match when from a penalty 5 metres out, Craig McWhirter was driven over for his first try for the seniors. The West supporters applauded a well deserved try. The final score was 66-5.
The WOS website reported : However, this was a predominately young Cumnock side that showed much promise for the future of their club.
Well done to all players who never gave up and were rewarded by that try.
Man of the match (as selected by the referee) Graham Hunter. DOD: ( for missing tackles) Steven Taylor Next week sees the final match of the season as Allan Glens visit Broomfield. Kick off is at 3pm, and all spectators are welcome.

Thank you Jim for the above report, Below is the link to the West of Scotland Report itself:- www.westofscotlandfc.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1026&Itemid=1On a perfect day for rugby the 2A's continued with their league programme with a home match against Cumnock. West dominated the play but early on turned the ball over at ruck time or knocked on which resulted in little progress. However as the team settled and started putting some phases of play together scoring opportunities arose. Taylor Deans was first on the board with good inter linking play and was on hand to receive an inside pass to score. Calum McDonald was next to score from a set move from a scrum where there was good running and passing and having been involved in the move received a return pass to score which was converted by Mark Davis. West were now winning good phase ball and linking well. Ross McLean was next to score when he was on the end of more good inter play and ran strong at the home defence to score between the posts and was converted by Davis. There were three further ties in the first half all individual efforts with strong running and quick feet by Davis, Deans and Dominic McKay which were all converted by Davis. Half Time west 40 Cumnock 0. The second half started out as a real scrappy affair with little continuity and for 15 minutes the play just went from set play to set play with many errors in both handling and use of possession. However, thereafter West scored a further 4 tries in the half. The first was by Deans when again some impressive speed and footwork took him away from the defence to score a good try which was converted by Andrew Stott. Scott Jamieson was next when after some good play up front the ball was quickly fed along the back line where he took on his winger grubbered through collecting the ball and scoring in the right hand corner. Deans scored again, his forth of the match, when after a lung busting run from Davis he was held up close to the line but had the presence of mind to off load to the supporting Deans with Davis then converting. Neil Copeland scored the last West try by being in support of the winger Jamieson and galloped in from 15 metres and was converted by Stott. Cumnock had the last say in the match when after a line out and some scrappy play dotted down on the line but went unconverted. There was little time thereafter and with the final whistle sounding West ran out winners 66 points to 5. This was another good team performance with some excellent individual displays. However, this was a predominately young Cumnock side that showed much promise for the future of their club. This is also the case for West and I would expect some of these guys looking to force their way into the 2nd team and maybe further with some hard work and dedication.
